Reader’s Question:

I am about to have my vehicle insured, so I asked my brother about it. He told me that there are ways to lower my automobile insurance premium. Can anyone give me some tips, please? I am Felecia from Nevada, by the way.

Hi, Felecia. It was actually good that you asked your brother before embarking on a journey to insure your car. You should know that before having your car insured, you should familiarize yourself with how the industry works by loading yourself with as much information that you can find.

When your brother told you that there are ways to lower your automobile insurance premium, he was not wrong. You just have to take some steps and plan strategically on how you are going to do this because, as of recent, things have not been going fairly well for everyone in terms of finances. So, it would be wise for you to cut on some expenses.

Anyway, here are some ways on how you might be able to cut costs on your automobile insurance:

The first thing I would like to point out is that female drivers are generally considered by auto insurance companies as lower risk drivers, in contrast to the male counterparts who are generally considered higher risk drivers. You, being a woman, are eligible for some discounts. You might want to take advantage of this.

Also, you could enroll yourself in a basic or a defensive driving course because this automatically shows that you take your driving seriously. If you are responsible on the road, and if you are aware of the road rules and regulations, automobile insurance companies would not think twice of giving you lower premiums. Check out high schools there in Nevada. They might be offering these courses. If not, I am sure you would find private institutions that give out driving courses.

Automobile insurance companies just have this tendency to give high premiums to those who are most probable to make more claims. So, also be sure to keep a clean driving record.
